Bibio is more common and widespread in temperate regions than in tropical ones. Worldwide, the genus contains 182 described species. From Central America, only seven species have been described (Fitzgerald, in Brown et al., 2010).
Bibio species are active even on cool days, when they may be among the only flies in sight. Males swarm together to attract the notice of females. Larval March Flies develop in dung, or in soil while feeding on roots. Adults feed on flowers.
