The seven North American species of Myolepta are generally active in the late Spring.

Eleven Neotropical species have been described thus far (Brown et al., 2010).

The known life histories indicate the larvae in this genus feed on decaying organic matter around tree holes.

Photo location: Ramsey Canyon, Cochise County, Arizona. The fly was sheltering in an area of tree trunk where the bark had recently been slashed by heavy equipment.
