Membracis is a wholly Neotropical genus made up of 48 species. These hoppers are found in groups ranging from several to more than 1,000 on a single plant, and they are always tended by ants. M. foliatafasciata is black along the front edge, and is marked in white as shown. Published records are from Brazil and French Guiana.

Note that M. foliata is similar but is white along the front edge (the broad white stripe is placed farther forward).
