Mysidia sp., Derbidae, Planthopper from French Guiana

Family: Derbidae

Length: The Moth Derbid in the photo had a wingspan of 17-18 mm; body length was 3.5 mm

There are 10 genera of Moth Derbids; Mysidia is the most speciose genus. Look for Moth Derbids under leaves, where they seek shelter from the rain.

Based on wing length and the lack of spots on the wings, a likely identification of the Derbid shown here is Mysidia venusta, described from Brazil.

Photo location: Sentier de Bagne des Annamites, French Guiana.
