Length: hopper in photo 6 mm to wing apex
Sixty-four species make up the genus Oecleus. A majority of species are found in the United States, Mexico, or Guatemala. Host plants for the various species range from grasses to asters to palms.
Members of this genus have the vertex compressed, with the carinae weak or barely discernible. To identify species it is usually necessary to examine the insect's genitalia.
