Givira is a widely distributed genus, found in the Neotropics, and with about 15 species in the Nearctic.
William Schaus described G. tigrata in 1911 from a Costa Rican specimen. It was one of an estimated 5,000 mostly Neotropical moths described by this widely travelled entomologist.
