Lithacodes fasciola

Yellow-shouldered Slug Moth

Lithacodes fasciola, Yellow-shouldered Slug Moth, image from West Virginia

Family: Limacodidae

Wingspan: 18 - 24 mm

The slug caterpillars of Lithacodes fasciola feed on leaves of a great variety of woody plants, among them elm, apple, beech, oak, and hickory.

Wagner (2005) reported that 2/3rds of the Yellow-Shoulder Slug Caterpillars he has collected have been parasitzed by tachinid flies. Braconid wasps, too, develop inside the caterpillars of this species.
