Resembles Urbanus proteus, but that species has a green iridescence on the body dorsally. In both species it is common to find individuals with broken tails.
Caterpillars feed on tick-trefoil and other members of Fabaceae.
Range: Georgia to Texas, south to Brazil, including the West Indies and the Galapagos Islands.
