Episactidae is a family within the same superfamily (Eumastacoidea) as the Monkey Grasshoppers (Eumastacidae).

There are four subfamilies in Episactidae, and within Episactinae there are four genera. Three of the four subfamilies are wingless while grasshoppers in subfamily Espagnolinae are winged. This latter group is found in the Dominican Republic only (Hugh Rowell, personal communication).
