The Nearctic genus Allocapnia contains 41 species.
Kondratieff and Kirchner (2000) note that most Allocapnia species are associated with temperate hardwood forests, and "apparently the genus evolved primarily with the Appalachian mountains with the Appalachian mountains and associated ridges."
Photo notes: 5 March 2006, above a small pond, Upshur County, West Virginia.
Note that this is both the family page for Capniidae and the genus page for Allocapnia
